Different forms of certification

Clef Verte

Developed in France since 1998, Clef Verte certification is, based on the number of certified hotels and its age, the number one environmental certification for tourist hotels in France. It recommends a wide range of criteria, particularly including the implementation of an environmental policy and a socially-responsible strategy, managing water and energy consumption, responsible purchasing, and actively raising customer awareness.

EarthCheck

EarthCheck certifies hotels’ energy consumption, waste management, and use of green products, as well as their commitment to developing local communities.  

Environmental labelling

Supported by the French Ministry for Ecological Transition and Solidarity, the ‘Etiquette environnementale’ was created in order to measure and provide customers with information and figures on the environmental footprint of a night’s stay with breakfast at a hotel. A rating of A to E is given to the hotel according to four environmental indicators: water consumption; non-renewable resource consumption (energy); and the proportion of organic or environmentally-certified products in the hotel’s supplies.

The EU Ecolabel

The only official European environmental label, recognised and used in all European Union member states, the EU Ecolabel highlights the environmental commitment of accommodation providers by assessing their economic and environmental impacts in the areas of water, energy and detergent consumption, as well as waste production.

Lyon Ville Equitable et Durable 

Created in 2010 by the city of Lyon, this label highlights products and services that are both local and responsible, and promotes the development of businesses in all of Lyon Metropole’s sectors of activity. Lyon Ville Equitable et Durable, which is demanding, promotes the accommodation that address the challenges of the environmental and social transition through responsible consumption.
