The birthplace of Cinema

It was in Lyon in the 19th century that the Lumière brothers invented new photographic processes and filed the patent for the cinematograph. Cinema was born!

Their family home has become the Lumière Museum which tells the story of the Cinématographe invention in 1895.

Available for private events, it has a lecture theatre that can seat 200 people.

Festival of Lights

In fact, ever since 8th December 1852, the date that Lyon chose to consecrate to Virgin Mary, Lyon has associated light with popular tradition.

Since 1999, the city has put this event at the forefront of the international scene by devoting 4 extra fairy-tale nights to the Festival, during which international artists transform the city through scenography and astonishing light shows held in traditional or unusual sites.
This major winter festival attracts several million visitors from all over the world.
