Located in the heart of the Croix-Rousse district, Soierie Vivante preserves two canut home weaving workshops that belong to the town. A guided tour offers a chance to see weaving looms in use and to learn the ropes of weaving!
"Two workshops to visit (with comments and demonstrations), free with the Lyon City Card :
- Atelier Municipal de Passementerie (headquarters), 21 rue Richan, Lyon 4th district, Tuesday to Saturday from 2-4 pm all year round: In the former apartment-workshop that belonged to Madame Letourneau, looms were used to weave gold, silver and silk thread ribbons for more than a century.
- Atelier Municipal de Tissage, corner of Montée J. Godart and Rue Lebrun, Lyon 4th district, Tuesday to Saturday from 3-5 pm all year round: Enter the workshop that formerly belonged to the Ressicaud family to see a demonstration of weaving on a Jacquard and mechanical looms in a 19th century family setting (kitchen and roof space).
On reservation: Weaving sessions for 7-12 year-olds during the school holidays. Les samedis des ptits filous, for 4-6 year-olds, are held on the first Saturday of the month, from 10-11 am.
Reception and shop at the Atelier Municipal de Passementerie: Tuesday: 1:30-6pm, Wednesday to Saturday: 9-12am / 1:30-6pm. Closed on public holidays.
Encouraged by the Soierie Vivante, a "Georges Mattelon" plaque has been placed at the corner of the Rue Richan and Rue Tour du Pin. M. Mattelon (1913-2004) was a master weaver who created the Rue Richan workshop and was awarded the title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France (Best Craftsman of France).
