Atelier d'impression Brochier Soieries
33 rue Romarin - 69001 Lyon 1er
Located in the heart of the city of Lyon, Maison Brochier Soieries opens the doors of its silk-printing workshop, the last in France to perpetuate by hand the traditional process of frame printing in the Lyon tradition, hand-painting on silk panne velvet, and woodblock printing.
The Brochier Soieries silk-printing workshop is a privately-owned production site which, since its creation in 1993, has never ceased to pass on its know-how of excellence.
This production site, the only one of its kind in France, perpetuates by hand the silk printing processes of the ‘Lyonnaise’ frame and plate. With 3,000 frames, some dating back to 1950, and 12,000 carved wooden boards, the oldest of which are two hundred years old, the company combines tradition and modernity to produce a wide variety of projects. Specialising in art reproduction, it makes silk squares and scarves with the "Made in Lyon" label for museums and art foundations around the world. It also perpetuates the technique of hand-painting on velvet panne in the tradition of the many Lyonnais workshops that abounded on the slopes of the Croix-Rousse in the last century.
The Atelier de Soierie also welcomes textile enthusiasts for introductory courses in silk hand-painting and Lyon-style frame printing.
