A breath of fresh air for Fourvière
The leading tourist destination in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region, Fourvière and its Basilica are mustsee landmarks whose spirituality are sure to awaken an inspiring force within all those who visit. The Fondation Fourvière, owner of the site, has launched a major renovation programme for the historic buildings surrounding the Basilica.
Built in 1853, the Maison Carrée and the Maison des Chapelains were in need of renovation, and from this maintenance project is born a new ambition: that Fourvière’s unique soul should grace all visitors, and to transform this attraction into a place of life and entertainment.
Carré Fourvière
Located to the south of the Basilica, the Maison Carrée will host a range of reception facilities that are currently being set up.
“Le Carré Fourvière” is a space for receptions, seminars, as well as exhibitions on the ground floor, spanning over 800 m² and divided into 7 rooms*.
Below it, discover the bistronomic restaurant headed by Guy Lassausaie that has also opened this summer.
Head up to the terrace for a breath-taking view of the city. And you won’t want to miss the stunning square courtyard, covered by a glass roof – sit back and look to the sky for a dazzling view of the golden virgin that majestically watches over Lyon.
This unique vantage point allows you to see higher, and undoubtedly further.
The esplanade
Fourvière’s esplanade is brimming with culture and life: last summer, it hosted a pop-up terrace, led by Chef Mory Sacko, concerts, and DJ sets that speak volumes about Fourvière’s openness to the diversity that the world and its many cultures have to offer.
Until the summer of 2022, the esplanade can be privatised for open-air, semi-covered or covered events for 35 to 150 people.
For its part, the Maison des Chapelains includes a training restaurant for the Apprentis d'Auteuil foundation, and will soon serve as a home for young people.
Relying on passion
For a more comprehensive historical visit of the site, the Fondation Fourvière offers a tour of the Basilica’s roofs, and organises conferences that are presented by passionate volunteers who are unwaveringly committed to sharing the history of this heritage site.Carré de Fourvière
