SIDO, a trade show made in OnlyLyon

Stéphanie Gibert, co-organizer of SIDO

The first edition of SIDO, a trade show devoted to the Internet of Things, attracted over 4,000 professional visitors...

A great performance for an event which benefited from the ExpoBooster operation provided by the Congress Bureau.

How did the SIDO trade show originate?

In 2014, when there was a lot of talk going on about French talent in the Internet of Things sector, we realized there was no real gathering event devoted to bringing these market professionals together. So we threw our energy into the trade show project with co-organizer Paola Jesson. Lyon was the obvious choice in terms of a strategic location, both for its reception capacity and geographical location. The Rhône-Alpes region does indeed boast all the various actors in the market’s ecosystem: Lyon for the digital aspect of things, Grenoble for electronics and Saint-Etienne for design.

What are the specific characteristics of this trade show?

The SIDO trade show is the first gathering that brings together all the actors involved in the Internet of Things. This showroom aims to present various technology suppliers to all companies that want to create connected objects or review existing models to include connectivity in their products. The trade show also hosts 42 conferences on the subject: strategies, usages and technologies that are specific to the Internet of Things..

What sort of support did you get from ExpoBooster?

Financial support, which enabled us to rent files to extend our databases and communicate at national level, on BFM TV and in Les Echos in particular. This support helped us attract prestigious national targets from the very first edition. During the trade show, the  Convention Bureau  also took care of communication throughout Lyon as well as signage aimed at participants, which was highly appreciated by our visitors.

What are the results for the first edition?

Results have exceeded our hopes with 4,300 professional visitors, most of which came from outside the Rhône-Alpes region. We have received excellent feedback from our 110 exhibitors, who got to meet some very interesting people. The European Commission for instance, mobilized a little less than a dozen SIDO-related projects.
Thanks to  Expo BoOster , we attracted national and international visitors from the very first year. Next year we will be using operation funds to communicate with international targets. Our goal is to become the reference Internet of Things trade show in Europe!
