Gourmet Lyon

Events and good addresses to discover soon...

21-25 January 2017

Sirha (the International Hotel, Catering & Food Trades Show) brings together catering and hospitality professionals to share trends and innovations in the international food service industry.

Held at Lyon Eurexpo during the month of January in odd-numbered years, it hosts the most prestigious international gastronomy competitions, including Bocuse d’Or (which will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2017), the Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie, and the International Catering Cup, with a total of twenty or so competitions.

Running alongside and in resonance with this trade show for professionals, Festival BIG (Biennale Internationale du Goût) offers a chance for the general public to enjoy fun gourmet moments throughout Lyon. A number of activities will be organised, including a huge meal for 3400 diners, served up by 50 chefs in the Croix-Rousse green transport tunnel, a food market with 60 growers and farmers, a themed auction at Les Puces du Canal, and the Festiv’halles evening event in Lyon’s iconic

Blooming deliciousFlavoursome, plant-based and healthy cuisine, with Scandinavian, English and Latin notes.

Behind this organic eatery which opened in May 2016, are Angelina and Adrian (who worked as a chef in Denmark for 15 years): a couple who are crazy about health food and offer a selection of high-quality, specialised fare.

They source their ingredients from only the best suppliers (most of which have been awarded the Meilleurs Ouvriers de France title) and leave the rest in the capable hands of Chef Camila Escudero.

Enjoy their soup of the day, lamb chops with squash, chanterelle mushroom and sage risotto, and, not to forget, a wide range of English-style home-baked products to eat in or take away.

There is also a mini health food store, with teas by Jardins de Gaïa, organic drinks and home-made granola.

Mumbaï Café

A passion for the Orient
Nicolas runs this family business, which was founded by his father in 1987; Julien is in charge of their inventive selection of cocktails (including sake, Japanese whisky and Asian gin); and last, but not least, Stéphane, master of the Tandoor (a traditional Indian oven), creates delicious new flavours for the palate.

At the Mumbaï Café, the watchwords are conviviality and sharing. Here you can discover all the diversity of Indo-Nepalese cuisine, with the Thali – an assortment of a dozen or so dishes, including vegetable fritters, pakoras, cucumber and mint raita, curry, satay chicken and more.

This restaurant, located on Rue Sainte Catherine, serves colourful, skilfully blended cuisine in an exotic setting.

A stage for up-and-coming chefsJust a short walk from Les Halles de Lyon is Arsenic, an “incubator” for up-and-coming chefs who have emerged from the kitchens of Christian Têtedoie. In a “neo-bistrot” setting, Alexis Lauriac serves lunch and dinner for a gathering of gourmets, giving free rein to his overflowing imagination.

Enjoy different varieties of vegetables cooked and seasoned in various ways.
His dishes, such as “razor clams with courgettes and caramelised butter”, or “beef and mushrooms with lemon confit and punzu sauce” are beautifully presented.
The desserts also hold some surprising flavours in store, such as the poached asparagus in tarragon juice, tarragon caramel, and almond tuile biscuit and financier cake.

The wine menu focusses on a selection from the Rhône valley and Burgundy

Le Suprême

A tribute to Bresse

After training in La Rochelle and a successful first experience working with Chef Richard Coutanceau, Grégory Stawowy has enjoyed a globe-trotting career, working with some of the most prestigious teams in the world: Ducasse in Paris and Monaco, Gagnaire in London and seven years with Daniel Boulud in the Big Apple.

Back in France, along with his wife Yun Young Lee, he opened their first restaurant in Lyon, with a signature dish: gâteau de foie blond (chicken liver custard).

Here, Bresse chicken reigns supreme.
They have been part of Lyon’s gastronomic constellation since October 2015 and we wish them a star-filled future…

Hard Rock Café

Born to Rock

The Hard Rock Cafe, a legendary brand created in 1970’s London, which currently has 169 restaurants around the world, has opened a restaurant in November 2017 in Lyon, at No.1 Rue Président Carnot.

On premises covering 1200 m² located in the heart of the Presqu’Île district, this new trendy concept run by locals skilfully blends the brand’s decorative scheme (memorabilia belonging to rock music legends and international stars) with a menu built on a selection of «homecooked » fresh local produce.

The meat, one of the main features on the menu, is of top quality.

The venue has a live music programme providing a stage for international artists and homegrown talent alike.

One of the brand’s iconic features, the Rock Shop, sells a wide range of clothing (t-shirts, sweatshirts, limited edition items, etc.), glasses, mugs and even special «Hard Rock Cafe Lyon» wines (red, white and rosé).
